What Should I Do For One Week In Lewes?

If you have 7 days to spend in Lewes, there are plenty of things to do and see! Here are some suggestions:

  1. Visit Lewes Castle and Barbican House Museum - the castle is a must-see attraction and the museum offers fascinating insights into the town's history. Allow about 2-3 hours for both.
  2. Explore the South Downs National Park - Lewes is located within the park, so take advantage of the beautiful scenery and go hiking or cycling. Plan for half a day or a whole day, depending on your level of activity.
  3. Walk around the town and discover its charming streets and shops - there are many independent boutiques and antique shops to browse. Allow a few hours for this.
  4. Visit Anne of Cleves' House - this Tudor-era property is open to visitors and is well worth a look. Plan for about an hour here.
  5. Take a tour of Harvey's Brewery - learn about the brewing process and sample some of the famous local ales. Allow about an hour and a half for the tour.
  6. Visit Charleston Farmhouse - the former home of the Bloomsbury Group is located just outside Lewes and offers a glimpse into the world of these famous artists and writers. Allow a few hours for this.
  7. See a performance at the Lewes Little Theatre - this intimate theatre hosts a variety of shows throughout the year. Check the schedule for performances during your stay and allow a few hours for this.

As for where to stay, there are plenty of options in Lewes and the surrounding area. The White Hart Hotel is centrally located and offers comfortable rooms, while the Pelham House Hotel is a historic property set in beautiful gardens. For a more rustic experience, try the YHA South Downs hostel, which is located in a converted barn. Whichever option you choose, you're sure to have a wonderful time in Lewes!
