If you only have 2-3 hours to spend in Whitby, here are a few suggestions on how to make the most of your time:
- Whitby Abbey: Visit the ruins of the famous abbey, which was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's Dracula. This will take about 1 hour to explore.
- Whitby Harbour: Take a stroll around the picturesque harbour, see the colourful fishing boats and perhaps grab a bite to eat. Allow about 30 minutes to an hour for this.
- Whitby Museum: Learn about the history of the town, including Captain Cook who trained in Whitby, and see the extensive fossil collection. This will take about 1 hour to 1.5 hours.
- 199 Steps and St. Mary's Church: Climb the iconic 199 steps leading up to St. Mary's Church for stunning views over the town and harbour. Allow about 30 minutes for this.
- Dracula Experience: If you're a fan of the famous vampire, why not visit the Dracula Experience, an interactive tour through the streets and alleyways of the town? Allow 45 minutes to an hour for this.
Of course, you could always just wander the town's charming cobbled streets, browse the shops, and soak up the seaside atmosphere. Whatever you choose to do, there's plenty to see in this historic town.
