If you have 2 days to spend in Barnstaple, there are plenty of things to do. Here are some suggestions:
Day 1:
- Visit the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon - this will take around 1-2 hours depending on how much you want to see
- Walk along the Tarka Trail - you can walk as much or as little as you like along this 180-mile trail, but it's worth doing at least a section of it. Allow at least 1-2 hours.
- Explore the town centre - Barnstaple has a range of independent shops and market stalls, as well as larger chain stores. Allow 2-3 hours.
Day 2:
- Visit Arlington Court - a National Trust property with a house, gardens and carriage museum. Allow at least 2-3 hours for this.
- Take a trip to the beach - Woolacombe and Saunton Sands are both within a short drive of Barnstaple and offer beautiful sandy beaches. Allow at least 2-3 hours.
- Take a hike on Exmoor - Exmoor National Park is just a short drive away and offers plenty of hiking trails. Allow at least 2-3 hours.
As for places to stay, there are plenty of options in Barnstaple itself, including hotels, B&Bs and guesthouses. Alternatively, there are plenty of holiday cottages available in the surrounding area if you prefer something more self-contained.
