1. Visit the Maldon Promenade Park - this lovely park has a boating lake, playgrounds and plenty of space for picnics. Time: 2-3 hours.
2. Take a trip to the Hythe - this is the historic part of Maldon on the riverfront, with plenty of independent shops, cafes and restaurants. Time: 3-4 hours.
3. Walk the Maldon Heritage Trail - this will take you past some of the town's most historic buildings and landmarks. Time: 2-3 hours.
4. Visit the Museum of Power - this museum is located in Langford and showcases the history of power generation. Time: 2-3 hours.
5. Take a trip to the nearby Stow Maries Aerodrome - this historic site showcases the role of Essex in World War I and has a number of old aircraft on display. Time: 3-4 hours.
As for places to stay, there are a number of hotels and bed and breakfasts in and around Maldon. The White Horse is a popular pub with rooms, while the Blue Boar is a hotel in the heart of the town.
