From Edinburgh, take the A90 to Aberdeen and then continue on the A952 to Peterhead before joining the A947 to Banff and the A98 to Fraserburgh. Take the A952 to join the Aithsvoe-Lerwick Road and follow signs to Lerwick.
Alternatively, take a ferry from Aberdeen to Lerwick, with frequent sailings available.
For rail travel, take a train from Edinburgh to Aberdeen and then transfer to a train to Wick, where you can take a bus or taxi to Thurso and catch a ferry to Lerwick.
From other local landmarks, such as the Shetland Museum and Archives, simply head north on the A970 until you reach Lerwick.
