If you have 6 hours or a half day to spend in Aberystwyth, here are some suggestions on what to do:
- Visit the National Library of Wales - You can spend an hour or two exploring the extensive collections of books, manuscripts, and archives. Plus, the building itself is impressive with great views of the town.
- Walk along the Promenade - The promenade stretches for over a mile and offers stunning views of Cardigan Bay. It's a great way to enjoy the fresh sea air and there are plenty of cafes and shops to stop off at along the way. Allow an hour or so for this.
- Take a ride on the Aberystwyth Cliff Railway - This funicular railway takes you up Constitution Hill, where you can enjoy panoramic views of the town and bay. The ride takes around 10 minutes and you can spend another half hour or so taking in the views and visiting the camera obscura.
- Visit the Vale of Rheidol Railway - If you're a train enthusiast, this is a must-do. The heritage railway takes you on a scenic journey through the Welsh countryside, and the journey takes around an hour each way.
- Explore the town centre - Aberystwyth has a charming town centre with plenty of independent shops, cafes, and restaurants. You can easily spend a couple of hours wandering around, taking in the sights and sounds.
With only half a day to explore, you'll need to pick and choose which activities you have time for. You could combine a few shorter activities, such as walking along the promenade and exploring the town centre, or spend longer at one or two attractions, such as the National Library of Wales or the Vale of Rheidol Railway.
