If you have 2-3 hours to spend in Sullom Voe, there are a few things you can do to make the most of your time:
- Visit the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal: The oil terminal is the raison d'etre for the town, and it's definitely worth seeing if you're interested in industrial or engineering sites. You can take a guided tour, but if you're short on time, just head to the viewpoint on the A970 road for a good look. Allow at least 30 minutes for a quick visit.
- Take a walk on the beach: Sullom Voe has a rugged coastline, and the beach at Rova Head is a lovely place for a walk. You might even see some seals or otters if you're lucky. Allow 45 minutes to an hour for a stroll.
- Grab a bite to eat: The North Mainland Leisure Centre has a café/restaurant where you can get a quick bite to eat. Alternatively, the nearby town of Brae has a wider selection of eateries, but you'll need to drive or take a bus to get there.
Overall, you could comfortably fit in a visit to the oil terminal and a walk on the beach within 2-3 hours. If you have extra time, grab a bite to eat or explore the nearby town of Brae.
