- Visit the Southport Pier - this is the oldest iron pier in the country and offers fantastic views out to sea. It's free to stroll along the pier, but if you want to go to the end there is a small charge. Allow 1-2 hours.
- Explore the Botanic Gardens - these beautiful gardens have a wide variety of plants and flowers, a lake, and a cafe. Free entry. Allow 1-2 hours.
- Go shopping on Lord Street - this elegant tree-lined street has a mixture of high-street stores and independent boutiques. Allow a few hours.
- Learn about local history at the Atkinson - this museum and art gallery has exhibits about the history of Southport, as well as temporary exhibitions. Free entry (some exhibits may have a charge). Allow 2-3 hours.
- Relax on the beach - Southport has a long, sandy beach that's perfect for a stroll or a picnic. Free activity.
As for places to stay, Southport has plenty of options to suit all budgets. The Ramada Plaza Southport and the Vincent Hotel are both highly rated luxury choices, while the Premier Inn Southport Central and the Travelodge Southport are more affordable options. There are also numerous guesthouses and B&Bs in the town.
