If you have 2 days to spend in Ely, here are some suggestions for things to do and places to stay:
Day 1:
- Visit Ely Cathedral - this stunning building is a must-see and can easily take up a couple of hours.
- Take a stroll around the historic town centre and admire the architecture, including Oliver Cromwell's House and the Market Square. This should take around an hour or two.
- Head to the riverside and take a walk along the Great Ouse. This is a lovely area for a picnic or a lazy afternoon. Plan for around 1-2 hours.
Day 2:
- Go on a guided tour of the Stained Glass Museum - this museum is located inside the cathedral and showcases some truly breathtaking pieces. The tour will last around an hour.
- Visit Ely Museum - this small museum is located in the centre of town and offers an interesting insight into the history of the area. It should take around an hour to visit.
- Take a trip to Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve - this is a beautiful spot for nature lovers and is home to an abundance of birds, insects, and other wildlife. It's around a 20-minute drive from Ely and can easily fill an afternoon.
As for places to stay, there are plenty of options in and around Ely. The Lamb Hotel and Poets House Hotel are both highly rated options in the town centre, while The Old Hall in nearby Stuntney is a charming country house hotel with excellent reviews.
