If you have 7 days to spend in Herefordshire, there are plenty of things you can do! Here are some suggestions, along with an idea of how long it may take to visit each attraction:
Day 1
- Visit Hereford Cathedral: Allow at least 2 hours to fully explore this beautiful cathedral, which is home to the Mappa Mundi and Chained Library exhibition.
- Take a stroll through Berrington Hall: This stunning Georgian mansion has beautiful gardens to explore, as well as the mansion itself. Allow 2-3 hours for this visit.
Day 2
- Explore the Black and White Village Trail: This self-guided driving tour takes you through some of the most picturesque villages in Herefordshire. Allow a full day for this.
- Visit Croft Castle and Parkland: This historic castle and estate offers beautiful walks and gardens to explore, as well as the castle itself. Allow at least 3 hours for your visit.
Day 3
- Go on a cider tour: Herefordshire is famous for its cider, so why not explore some of the local cider producers? This could take anywhere from a few hours to a full day, depending on how many places you want to visit.
- Take a hike in the Malvern Hills: Although technically not in Herefordshire, the Malvern Hills are close by and offer stunning views of the surrounding area. You could spend anywhere from a few hours to a full day hiking here.
Day 4
- Visit the Waterworks Museum: This fascinating museum in Hereford tells the story of drinking water through exhibitions, hands-on displays, and working engines. Allow around 2 hours for your visit.
- Take a leisurely walk in the Forest of Dean: This beautiful forest is just over the border in Gloucestershire, but is easily accessible from Herefordshire. You could spend a few hours here, or make a full day of it.
Day 5
- Take a drive through the Golden Valley: This scenic valley is a hidden gem of Herefordshire, with picturesque villages and stunning countryside views. Allow a few hours for your drive.
- Visit Hampton Court Castle and Gardens: This stunning castle and estate has beautiful grounds to explore, as well as a maze and butterfly house. Allow at least 3 hours for your visit.
Day 6
- Explore the Small Breeds Farm and Owl Centre: This family-friendly attraction has a variety of farm animals and birds of prey to see. Allow around 2 hours for your visit.
- Take a tour of the Chase Distillery: This local distillery produces gin and vodka, and offers tours of its facilities. Allow around 2 hours for your visit.
Day 7
- Take a leisurely stroll along the River Wye: The River Wye runs through Herefordshire, and there are plenty of spots to enjoy a peaceful walk along its banks. You could spend a few hours or a full day here, depending on how much you want to explore.
- Visit Eastnor Castle: This fairytale castle has beautiful gardens and grounds to explore, as well as the castle itself. Allow at least 3 hours for your visit.
As for places to stay, Herefordshire has plenty of options, from traditional B&Bs to luxury hotels. Consider staying in the city of Hereford itself if you want to be close to many of the above attractions, or in one of the picturesque villages if you're looking for a more relaxed pace.
