What Should I Do For One Week In Devizes?

If you have 7 days to spend in Devizes, there are a variety of things to do that can keep you busy.

First and foremost, take a stroll around the town's famous market square and visit the Shambles - a historic shopping arcade. This shouldn't take too long - perhaps a few hours if you want to browse all of the shops.

If you're interested in history, visit the Wiltshire Museum which showcases artefacts and information from the county's prehistoric, Roman and Medieval periods. This could take between 2-3 hours to look around.

Another interesting place to visit is the Kennet and Avon Canal Museum, which is a restored canal warehouse and provides a wealth of information on the construction of the canal and the life of the people who lived and worked on it. This could take around 1-2 hours, not including any canal boat trips.

When you're ready for some outdoor activities, head to the Caen Hill Locks - a picturesque set of 29 locks on the Kennet and Avon Canal. You can walk along the towpath and watch the boats navigating the locks. This could take anywhere between 1-3 hours depending on how far you want to walk.

If you have transportation, head to Avebury Stone Circle, which is a neolithic henge monument containing three stone circles. This is located about 20 minutes away from Devizes and could take several hours to walk around and explore the site.

For places to stay, there are a variety of options including hotels, bed and breakfasts, as well as holiday rentals. Some popular options include the Castle Hotel, The Three Crowns and The Peppermill.
