What Should I Do For One Week In Bamburgh?

If you have 7 days to spend in Bamburgh, there are numerous places and activities you can visit. Here are some suggestions:

Day 1:

Start your day by exploring Bamburgh Castle, one of the most iconic landmarks in the area. It may take about 2-3 hours to visit and take in all the history. After lunch, visit St Aidan's Church, located a short walk from the castle. Then end your day by watching the sunset on Bamburgh Beach.

Day 2:

Drive 10 minutes south to Seahouses and take a boat trip to the Farne Islands. It's a birdwatcher's paradise, and you may also spot seals and dolphins. You should allow at least 4-5 hours for the trip.

Day 3:

Head north for 15 minutes to visit Holy Island (Lindisfarne). The island is unique because it's cut off from the mainland when the tide is high. Visit St Aidan's Winery to sample some of their award-winning wines and mead. Allow at least 3-4 hours for the trip.

Day 4:

Drive 30 minutes northwest to visit Cragside House and Gardens in Rothbury. The house is a masterpiece of Victorian engineering, and the gardens are breathtaking. Allow at least 3-4 hours for the trip if you also want to explore Rothbury.

Day 5:

For a unique experience, travel to Kielder Observatory, about an hour drive north. It's one of the UK's largest observatories that opens to the public. You'll get an amazing experience of stargazing in a peaceful woodland setting. Allow up to 6-7 hours for the trip, and pre-booking is essential.

Day 6-7:

Spend the last two days exploring Bamburgh village or enjoy the long sandy beaches. Take a stroll in the village, visit local shops, pubs, and cafes. Or simply soak in the natural beauty and see more of the area on foot or by bike.

Places to stay:

For a luxurious stay, choose to spend your nights in Bamburgh Castle's two accommodations: the King's Apartments or the Armstrong Apartment. For mid-range options, check out The Victoria Hotel or Bamburgh Castle Inn. For budget-friendly stays, consider The Sunningdale, a B&B, or The Mizen Head Hotel.
